Happy Holidays Everyone! I know you’re all busy enjoying some offseason gluttony but let me give you a gentle reminder that it’s during the offseason that we can make the largest gains with our cycling if we jump on a trainer. If you can dig deep and push yourself past the physical and mental barriers that hold you back, you can boost your power and efficiency and start off your 2014 season at a much higher level than you were at the previous season. Invite your friends! Tell them they’re getting soft in the offseason! Bond over some mutual suffering.

Setup for some mutual suffering

If you’re looking to shake things up, click on the Cycling category and walk through all my Trainer Tuesdays workouts I posted last season. With your trainer workouts you want to push yourself past the uncomfortable zone–this is NOT an easy ride effort. Expect it to hurt, expect it to be hard, expect to sweat like a motherplucker….and soak in every single moment knowing that you’re doing exactly what you need to do to stay one step ahead of your competition.

And after you’ve worked up a sweat indoors make sure to go outside to de-funk, take in some fresh air, and enjoy winter in all it’s glory. This week Kaipo and I got out to the trails to go play in the snow. It was a great way to get in some cross training and spend quality Mom-pup time. He’s 19 months now and is turning into such a handsome boy. I seriously don’t know how or why I went so long without ever owning a dog. It’s scary how much I love him.

Okay, enough reading for you! Go get your butt on that trainer! Pedal! Pedal!

Where did you guys go for trails? My boyfriend recently moved to Providence and we’d love to find some places to hike and such.

Blue Hills up in Milton, MA. The Skyline Trail is strenuous but fun. You’ll want snowshoes if there’s snow on the ground. I wish I had some. But now it should all be melted!

How’d you luck into hardwood floor in an apartment? Gotta wait til my houseguest leaves before my trainer can get setup but will look forward to getting back to routine!

A lot of houses here have hardwoods due to their historic status. Mine isn’t that old–built in 1900–but the floors are original and I love them!
